Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a care assistant to join our new High Dependency unit as a Healthcare Assistant working 157.5 hours every 4 weeks. You will need to be flexible to work days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. The individual will assist in the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of our service users under the guidance of qualified nurses. You will assist in supporting service users to engage in social/therapeutic activities, and promote effective relationships which address spirituality, diversity and equality in accordance with our organisation's mission, values, vision and legislation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and instruction to patients to explain any procedures being undertaken.
  • Follow individual care and therapeutic programmes for patients under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Support care plans – help patients reach recovery goals, maintain activities of daily living (ADLs), attend appointments and develop coping strategies.
  • Support registered nurses in physical health monitoring, including patients' vital signs, drug or alcohol screening, and promoting wellbeing (when appropriately trained).
  • Be supportive and communicative with patients and colleagues.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Ensure patients are treated with care and compassion at all times and that privacy and dignity are respected and maintained.
  • Report any change or deviation from the planned care package to registered nurses.
  • Be informed and aware of patients' clinical condition and individual circumstances to ensure care and comfort of service users.
  • Provide patients with personal care.
  • Support in maintaining and promoting health and safety within the work environment.
  • Support and promote patient management of their Section 17 leave of the Mental Health Act.
  • Assist in the maintenance of ward cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
