Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic healthcare assistant with a proven clinical background to join our large, busy practice. The successful candidate will have the ability and personal drive to run clinics autonomously alongside Primary Care colleagues. You will possess excellent communication skills, a passion for patient care and the ability to adapt in order to respond to the challenging demands of primary care.

Main duties
  • To carry out a wide range of treatment room duties e.g. wound care, venepuncture, new registration checks, blood pressure checks, ECGs, injections and immunisations, NHS Health Checks
  • Offer appropriate lifestyle advice to patients.
  • To provide general and specific health screening/health promotion to the practice population, with referral to the doctors as necessary, in the areas of annual reviews, screening, Diet, Smoking cessation and other lifestyle factors, as agreed within practice protocols
  • To assist with minor surgery
About Us

We are a large, well organised GMS practice with an increasing list size of just over 17,500. We are a training practice VTS and medical students, host Practice for Primary Care Research Network in Redditch, and have an excellent Chronic disease management recall system. We have a high QoF and a large supporting team with 5 nurses, 2 HCAs and a Phlebotomist, as well as a well coordinated admin team. We use Emis Web and Docman (including EZ Doc), EPS, and on-site pharmacy. A good sense of humour is essential.

Job Description

Job responsibilities

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of basic practice healthcare assistant services to the practice population. Supported by senior nurses within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

Job Responsibilities – Clinical
  • To carry out a wide range of treatment room duties e.g. wound care, venepuncture, blood pressure checks, ECGs, injections and immunisations, NHS health checks
  • To provide general and specific health screening/health promotion to the practice population, with referral to the doctors as necessary, in the areas of annual reviews, screening, diet, Smoking cessation and other lifestyle factors, as agreed within practice protocols
  • To assist with minor surgery
  • To work with due regard for Health and Safety standards within the practice, including infection control procedures
  • To document care given and report back to the Lead Nurse as appropriate
  • To be aware of the relative cost of commonly used items
  • To adhere to Winyates Health Centre/Worcestershire ICB policies and procedures
  • To take an active part in clinical supervision and reflective practice sessions
  • To report any risks to the Lead Nurse
  • To order and maintain stock levels of treatment room items
  • To document clearly all consultations and treatments provided on computer
  • To complete all necessary paperwork and computer entries required for practice administration (e.g. prescription claims, patient recall systems, quality and outcomes framework)
