Job summary

Marie Curie is seeking a Healthcare Assistant for community-based end-of-life care in North Wales (Flintshire & Wrexham). The role involves personal care, symptom management and emotional support under supervision, with night shifts and a 36-hour per month commitment.

The post offers Band 2 pay (£13.45/hour) with enhancements, a pro-rata annual leave, and extensive development opportunities in a compassionate, patient-centred team. Driving licence required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent Level 2.
• Functional skills in numeracy and literacy at Level 2 are required.
• At least 6 months of care delivery experience in health or social care.
• Knowledge of palliative and end of life care and holistic care planning.

Responsibilities

• Support patients with personal care, symptom management and emotional support.
• Contribute to care planning within a multidisciplinary team.
• Assist with daily living activities and maintain a safe, dignified environment.
• Provide compassionate, person-centred care and support to loved ones during bereavement.

Job Description

As a Healthcare Assistant, you’ll be a vital part of a multidisciplinary team delivering holistic, person-centred end of life care. Working under the guidance of registered professionals, you’ll support patients and those important to them with personal care, symptom management, and emotional support.
You’ll contribute to care planning, assist with daily living activities, and help maintain a safe and dignified environment. This is a compassionate and hands-on role where you’ll make a meaningful difference in people’s lives during their final stages, while also supporting their loved ones through grief and bereavement.
Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale Band 2 (aligned with AFC) £13.45 per hour + enhancements
Contract: As and When, Night Shifts only, 9 hour shift patterns. 7 days a week service, with preference for Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Must be available 36 hours per month.
Based: Community Based – North Wales – Flintshire & Wrexham

What we’re looking for:

• NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent Level 2 qualification (e.g. NCFE, BTEC), plus functional skills in numeracy and literacy at Level 2
• At least 6 months of recent care delivery experience in a health or social care setting
• Strong communication skills with the ability to hold person-centred, empathetic conversations and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Knowledge of palliative and end of life care, including holistic care planning and symptom management
• Ability to plan and prioritise care, respond to changes in patient condition, and elevate appropriately
• A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
