Overview

Join the Joint Replacement/Elective Orthopaedic Ward (Ward 2) and work as an experienced HCA with NVQ Level 3.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing patients for theatre.
  • Post‑operative care of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assist patients in meeting their hygiene needs and carry out all aspects of personal care and grooming.
  • Recording of patients observations; general observations of patients, reporting anything untoward to Registered Nursing Staff.
  • Documentation of care plans on PENS.
  • Preparation and serving of patient meals, drinks and snacks; assisting/feeding patients as necessary.
  • Reporting patients dietary intake as indicated in the plan of care.
  • Carry out any movement and handling within safe practice guidelines and patients’ manual handling plan.
  • Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the Registered Nurse in conjunction with the patient’s plan of care.
  • Obtaining specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing.
  • Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and carers.
  • General duties: support all individuals through effective communication; general bed making/making up of clean beds; clear and clean vacated bed spaces and prepare ready for use according to the ward/unit protocol; assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment and following Infection Control guidelines and policies.
