Job description

Supporting the departure lounge by collecting patients from the wards, bringing their belongings and medications so that the patient can be discharged to their discharge destination from the departure lounge.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring that patients are cared for in a safe environment and that privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.

The post holder will provide direct care and provide verbal and written reports.

To actively seek the views of patients / carers on their understanding of their care needs and develop a relationship to ensure the patient’s experience is positive.

Involved in clinical and non‑clinical duties in the departure lounge and responsible for assisting in the smooth run‑ning of the departure lounge.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Assist the registered nurse / professional in the delivery of patient care.
  2. Communicate with patients in such a way that respects and takes into account the patient’s level of understanding.
  3. Assist with the preparation and delivery of meals and beverages, assisting patients as requested.
  4. Adhere to strict compliance with trust Infection Control policies and procedures.
  5. Participate in the discharge process of patients as directed by the registered nurse.
  6. Communicate effectively with patients / carers to ensure patients are kept well informed of any changes.
  7. Record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, urine analysis, weight, height, reporting any abnormalities to the nurse / professional in charge.
  8. Help patients within the parameters of their level of mobility, using equipment as required, ensuring risks are minimised.
  9. Help patients look after themselves and maintain their personal hygiene – wash and bathe the patient in bed or in the bathroom, care for mouth, hair, nails and pressure areas, and help them dress and undress.
  10. Help patients to be as comfortable as possible during their stay in the departure lounge and to ensure that they are able to rest, providing a safe, controlled environment.
