Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting the smooth running of sexual health care delivery in both hub and spoke clinics.
  • Supporting delivery of high‑standard sexual health care within the department and satellite clinics.
  • Supporting the development and growth of the service.
  • Working collaboratively with the sexual health team, promoting and providing high‑quality care for patients seeking advice, screening and treatment in contraception and sexual health settings.
  • Supporting the sexual health team, working autonomously where appropriate.
  • Day‑to‑day duties include phlebotomy, blood pressure, weight, height and BMI calculations, pregnancy testing, collecting urine samples including urinalysis, providing a no‑talk testing service, condom demonstrations, chaperoning, assisting and preparing for sessions within sexual health.
  • Responsible for stock refill, rotation and ordering as per clinical requirements and supporting maintenance of high infection and prevention standards.
  • To work as an integral part of the sexual health team under the direction of the Nurse Team Leader to promote contraception and sexual health issues, ensuring the wellbeing of patients.
  • Assist in clinic sessions as directed by the Nurse Team Leader to ensure the smooth running of the clinics.
  • Participate in planned procedures and prescribed care for patients under the direction of medical and nursing colleagues, including preparing for and assisting clinicians with IUD fittings/removals, implant insertion/removal, swab sample taking and cervical cytology.
  • Act as a chaperone for clinical staff offering intimate examinations to patients as and when necessary.
  • Undertake condom teaching and advice to patients, promoting safe sex issues including prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles in all aspects of delivering the sexual health service, ensuring holistic care is undertaken.
  • Support nursing and medical colleagues in the delivery of the cytology screening programme to adhere to Government policy and actively support obtaining urine or vulvo‑vaginal specimens from patients, ensuring the process for collection is completed.
