Job description
Overview

We are currently recruiting a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join the General Rehab Inpatient Unit at Tenbury Community Hospital. The candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to achieve rehabilitation goals. This is a part-time role of 34.5 hours per week.

Tenbury Community Hospital provides NHS services locally, aiming to reduce length of stay while delivering safe, effective, personalised and compassionate care. We support career development, flexible working and wellbeing for staff.

Please note: The Trust will not routinely provide sponsorship for this role. To meet Home Office salary thresholds, significant experience is required to be offered at the top of the pay band and to work a minimum of 35.5 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with admitting patients to the ward and care of their relatives.
  • Undertake clinical procedures following assessment of competencies by qualified senior staff.
  • Carry out delegated nursing care and document care given; maintain contemporaneous records.
  • Provide safe and effective care and act as health educator/promoter.
  • Identify areas for improvement and support rehabilitation alongside the therapy team.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and participate in the rehabilitation of the patient.
  • Assist patients with morning personal care and dressing; mobilise patients using appropriate mobility equipment and liaise with physiotherapy.
  • Liaise with nursing staff regarding observations, catheters, lab samples, blood sugar monitoring, dressings and other health checks.
  • Carry out weekly patient assessments (e.g., weighing, mattress checks) and catheter bag changes when required.
  • All work is undertaken under the direction of a qualified nurse.

Person Specification

Experience - Essential: Experience of working in a care environment. Desirable: Nursing experience within the NHS or hospital setting; experience in general medicine or rehabilitation.

Qualifications - Essential: Vocational qualification level 3 or equivalent; level 2 in care with willingness to undertake level 3 on appointment; Care Certificate or to gain within 12 weeks of starting; Safety Intervention training; willing to present original certificates at offer.

Additional Criteria - Essential: Common sense; empathetic, punctual, reliable. Desirable: Willingness to undertake further training.

Skills & Abilities - Essential: Ability to communicate clearly in English, ability to challenge poor behaviour, role modelling, positive attitude, teamwork, enthusiastic and self-motivated.

Knowledge - Essential: Basic knowledge of nursing adults and/or training. Desirable: Basic IT skills.
