Job description

Vine Medical Group is recruiting for an experienced FullTime Healthcare Assistant to join our ClinicalTeam.

Our Healthcare Assistants aresupported by our Nursing Team to deliver a range of clinical services and playa key role in assisting the Practice to deliver programmes of care including monitoringof long-term conditions and health prevention activities. They work collaboratively with our teams tomeet the needs of patients, contributing to the health and wellbeing of ourpatient population and provide high-quality and safe patient care.

We are looking for a motivated team player with a can-doattitude, patient focused approach who works well as part of a team. We are happy to support ongoing training anddevelopment.

This is a full time role of37.5 hours per week between Monday- Friday, with a working pattern to beagreed. To include our extended opening hours, on a rotational basis (aftersuccessful completion of the probationary period) which can include early weekdaymornings or one weekend session a month.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of our Clinicians,strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, theHealthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provisionand delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

We operate across four locations; the Forest End, Waterlooville HealthCentre, Aintree and Stakes Lodge sites.We employ a multi-skilled team including GPs, Practice Nurses, Advanced NursePractitioners, Healthcare Assistants, Paramedics, Pharmacists and skilledadministrative teams who support the smooth running of the Practice.

Job responsibilities
  • Work withinclinical boundaries, demonstrating safe and competent clinical decision-making,delivering high quality clinical care and maintaining patient confidentialityat all times
  • Accuraterecording of care provision onto patient records ensuring correct coding of allprocedures and information using approved methods and templates
  • Provide handson autonomous patient care in line with practice protocols and nationalclinical frameworks including: Phlebotomy, Long Term Health Conditions Annual Reviews (both in surgery andHousebound/Care Homes), NHS Patient Health Checks, Height and weight measurements, Blood Glucose Sampling, ECG Recording- Blood Pressure Monitoring (Manual), Urinalysis. Also where in line with own competencies and training: Wound Care including removal of sutures and clips, Administration of B12 injections, Administration of specified routine vaccination, Facilitating / participating in patient group consultation
  • Chaperoning andassisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by anotherclinician
  • Processing andmanagement of laboratory samples requested by other Clinicians
  • Vaccine / coldchain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Conduct routineand post-use inspections of emergency equipment and medications
  • Ordering ofclinical supplies and equipment, assist with stock checking and maintaining theequipment inventory
  • Clearing andre-stocking clinical rooms/trolleys at end of the session ensuring stockrotation and date checking
  • Cleaning andmaintaining clinical equipment, reporting faults promptly
  • Preparing andmaintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient careinterventions including assisting Practice Nurses and GPs during theperformance of minor operations and LARC fittings
  • Activelyparticipate in all aspects of infection prevention and control and championthis within the practice
  • Assisting inthe assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
  • Helping toraise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  • Assisting withthe collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-beingand support QOF requirements and data completion
  • Activelyparticipate in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign
  • Maintainaccurate clinical records in conjunction with Practice policies and currentlegislation
  • Attend andparticipate in practice meetings as required
  • Actively take part in mandatory, internal andexternal training as requested
Person Specification
Knowledge & Skills
  • Confident IT user with accurate data entry skills
  • Working knowledge of EMIS / medical systems
  • Excellent communication skills, able to effectively engage with a diverse range of people recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background, and preferred ways of communicating
  • Able to work well under pressure and remain calm when interacting with distressed patients or those presenting with challenging behaviours
  • Ability to work as an effective part of team, with a focus on communication
  • An understanding acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
  • Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and tasks
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Driving Licence / access to own transport to facilitate travel to patient homes/facilities during the working day.
Experience
