Job description

We are looking for a healthcare assistant or senior healthcare assistant based at our Ilkley site for IG Medical with cross‑cover at Grassington Medical Centre when required.

I G Medical is a multi site 18000 patient list size practice with a large and diverse clinical team.

We offer training and development for all our staff plus additional staff benefits.

Main duties of the job

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

We are a training practice and a caring, forward‑thinking, committed team whose aim is to improve the health of our community by delivering high quality patient care, whilst maintaining a fulfilling working environment for all.

Our clinical team includes 5 GP Partners, salaried GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and our nursing team consists of Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants. All are supported by our hardworking Managers, reception and administrative teams.

Job responsibilities
  • Support the practice nurses with health promotion programmes.
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
  • Facilitate routine and 24‑hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed.
  • Undertake venepuncture.
  • Administer flu vaccinations/B12 injections.
  • Carry out ear irrigation.
  • Carry out ECGs as requested.
  • Deliver domiciliary service in the community.
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
  • Provide support during minor operations as required.
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance.
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
  • Use clinical system software for audit purposes.

Clinical Knowledge and Skills
  • Wound Care / Removal of sutures & staples ECGs Venepuncture New patient medicals inc. Height, weight, BP, Pulse Ability to record accurate clinical notes Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Strong IT skills Clear, polite telephone manner Effective time management (Planning & Organising) Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
  • Good interpersonal skills Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure.
