Job Summary

The States of Guernsey are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join Corbiere Ward. Corbiere Ward is a 20‑bedded unit that provides nursing care for people living with dementia whose needs cannot be met at home or in a community care setting. The post holder will carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of a registered nurse, with minimal supervision. They will ensure high‑quality individualised care is delivered to service users living with advanced dementia and other mental‑health diagnoses, maintaining privacy and dignity. The post holder will demonstrate skills to new or less experienced members of staff and participate in ward‑based induction and orientation programmes. They are responsible for ensuring that all mandatory and statutory training is current and will contribute to the principles of our CARE values.

Job Description
  • Support patients/service users in undertaking activities of daily living within care plans.
  • Monitor and report changes in patient/service user presentation to the staff member in charge and take appropriate action.
  • Follow all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Report issues of concern in line with policy and contribute to any Quality and Safety processes.
  • Build a rapport with patients/service users and their support network, communicating with them in a way that respects their views.
  • Use a wide range of communication skills that can be adapted to meet the needs of complex and challenging situations.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
