Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity within our friendly GP training practice for an experienced HCA. In this varied role you will become an integral part of the team, running your own clinics as well as supporting other clinicians and the surgery as a whole.
Main duties of the job
In Clinic You Will Support Your Patients With
- ECGs
- BP monitoring
- BMI calculating
- Injections
- Health checks
- INR monitoring (not dosing)
- Diabetic foot checks
- Wound care management
- Assisting nurses with baby immunisation clinics
Outside Of Clinics You Will
- Support the team and surgery with room stocking and stock rotation
- Manage tasks and queries within the organisation and from others
- Support the Infection, Prevention and Control lead
- Maintain good health and safety procedures
Although an experienced candidate would be ideal, training can be given for the right applicant.
The surgery is open from 8am to 6.30pm and the successful candidate would need to be able to either start at 8am or finish at 6.30pm.
Working Hours and Days
Working Hours: 16-30 hours per week
Working Days: Negotiable but would need to include a Thursday

Job Title
Healthcare Assistant (HCA)
Responsible To
Lead Practice Nurse
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake and record tasks such as urinalysis, BP, pulse, temperature, height, weight, ECG and basic dressings.
- Prepare and maintain patient care environments and equipment.
- Assist in raising awareness of health and well‑being within appointments and targeted campaigns.
- Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups.
- Record information and activities accurately and timely using manual or computer systems.
- Maintain confidentiality in all information relating to patients, relatives, staff and the practice.
- Identify and manage risks, undertake infection control procedures, maintain clean and safe clinical rooms.
- Support the team with emergency equipment checks, room stocking, stock rotation and infection control.
- Assist with health and safety procedures, cold chain, vaccine/drug storage and disposal.
- Help with clinical audits, service improvement initiatives and patient information leaflets.
- Ensure compliance with clinical governance, quality standards and practice policies.
- Communicate effectively with team members, patients and carers, including alternative communication methods.
- Take responsibility for personal and people development, supervision and training needs.
- Carry out any other tasks reasonably expected by the Lead Practice Nurse.

Desirable
- Experience working in a GP Practice or Primary Care.
- Full training and support can be given to the right candidate.
- Experience with diabetic patients and long‑term condition reviews.
