Job description
Overview

Registered Nurse or similar professional to deliver an Outpatient Parental Antibiotics Therapies (OPAT) service to patients across Mid and South Essex NHS Trust areas in a clinic setting. The role is part of the Integrated Care and Hospital at Home teams and may require working across multiple sites.

Responsibilities
  • Assist clinic manager with day‑to‑day operation of the OPAT clinic.
  • Organise a caseload of patients with complex needs and support clinical teams within a virtual wards setting.
  • Liaise with virtual wards and emergency department medical teams to identify and assess patients for OPAT services and communicate with community teams and patients' GP's to ensure continuity of care.
  • Safe administration of IV medications per agreed clinical pathways, develop and keep current care plans.
  • Manage clinical caseload and facilitate patient flow through identified pathways, including discharge planning, within Hospital@Home teams.
  • Work alongside Band 7 clinic manager and Healthcare Assistant to assess patients and provide optimal treatments.
  • Provide Band 6 nurse responsibilities: coordinate clinics and ensure the nurse‑led service is organised and adheres to Trust policies and procedures.
  • Travel between hospital base sites (Basildon, Southend, Billericay or Broomfield) using own car; travel expenses reimbursed.
  • Flexibility to work at multiple clinic sites and support Hospital@Home service with administration of IV therapies to patients on the service in their own homes if required.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (or equivalent) with experience in autonomous patient care and intravenous therapy.
  • Proficient cannulation skills and experience administering IV medications via PICC or peripheral cannula.
  • Excellent communication skills – email, telephone, virtual meetings etc.
  • Driving licence and access to own car.
