A leading FMCG company in England seeks an Environmental Officer to provide support to the Senior Leadership Team by implementing effective management systems ensuring compliance with Environmental legislation. Job description

To provide comprehensive support to the Senior Leadership Team by ensuring that effective management systems are in place, which deliver the Environment Policy and meet legal requirements.

What You Will Contribute
  • Plan and support the roll out of Environment Strategy, ensuring that best practice standards are developed and maintained on site that are compliant with statutory requirements and company policy.
  • Environmental spend is within budget.
  • Provide accurate, timely, legally correct assistance and sensible business-led advice to line managers on site in all aspects of the Environment.
  • Foster a positive culture by ensuring accountability for Environment is accepted by managers and employees. Acting as a coach and facilitator for line managers and providing appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Identify Environmental learning needs for the company and provide cost-effective solutions to meet these needs, through liaison with the Head of TL&D.
  • Identify areas for improvement as a result of risk assessments, audits, and incidents and ensure that these are followed to completion to ensure continuous improvement and learning.
  • Understand, monitor and maintain the business performance against the requirements of the Environmental management system and the Environmental Permit requirements. Recommend improvements to the management system, taking part in company-wide improvement projects where required.
  • Lead in conjunction with line management, initiatives designed to improve commitment at all levels, to continuously improve standards of Environment to benefit company performance.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an Environment role, ideally in an FMCG organisation.
  • General knowledge of all aspects of Environment and Environment legislation, with a good level of expertise in handling audit from internal and external parties.
  • Minimum qualification PIEMA (Practitioner membership) or working towards.
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills: articulate, influential; persuasive; impactful verbal and written skills.
  • Excellent relationship builder—establishing credibility and building rapport with both internal and external contacts at all levels.
  • Problem solver: able to find a safe and compliant resolution to issues and promote safety as an enabler not a blocker.
  • Decisive: able to make decisions, in a timely manner, and be accountable.
