The post - Health & Safety Manager

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead the development and delivery of UWS's health and safety strategy across all campuses. This key role will ensure compliance with legislation, promote a strong safety culture, and provide expert guidance to staff, students, contractors, and visitors. Working closely with the Head of Estates & Sustainability, the post holder will have strategic and operational responsibility for health and safety planning, policy implementation, and the management of a diverse team of professionals. The successful candidate will oversee risk management, compliance monitoring, and emergency preparedness, while also leading training programmes and engaging with stakeholders across the University. With responsibility for campus-specific safety oversight, committee reporting, and external liaison with regulatory bodies, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence health and safety practices at an institutional level.

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or actively working towards it. Significant experience managing health and safety in a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • Experience of liaison with HSE and other regulatory and advisory bodies.
  • Experience of leading teams and managing budgets.
