Job description

We are looking to appoint a Health & Safety Manager supporting our children's services and central support teams nationwide. Five Rivers Child Care is one of the UK's most experienced practitioners in turning around the lives of vulnerable children and young people. We provide a range of services for looked‑after children, including fostering, residential care, education, and clinical services. Ensuring safe and healthy workplaces and residential homes for our staff and the children we care for is our highest priority, and we need you to join us in taking the lead in managing our Health and Safety. All our staff understand the importance of this role, and your guidance will be sought after and valued. We can offer you the opportunity to develop your career in a friendly, multi‑site social enterprise with strong values at its core (in our recent Employee Survey, 96% of employees said they were proud to be a member of their team). You will be responsible for our systems, policies and procedures, to ensure the health, safety and well‑being of all employees, contractors, visitors and young people in our care. Experience in our care sector is helpful; however, your ability to relate to our teams and support them successfully in their health and safety practices is more important to us. You'll be the direct link with our managers and Appointed Persons across the country and recommend appropriate training where needed. We’ll need you to keep records, produce reports and tell us how we are doing and what we need to do to improve (we take our systems and improvements seriously and are ISO9001 accredited). You will need full IOSH Qualifications and auditing experience, or ideally NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualifications, along with knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, Health & Safety policies and procedures and how to operate best practice. The Health & Safety manager will provide proactive and expert advice to the board on all health and safety matters, as well as inspiring, motivating, and responsible individuals to take ownership of health & safety at their sites.
