Job summary

Bimplus is seeking a Health & Safety / Compliance Manager to act as the Designated Competent Person for Health and Safety across its multi-site schools. You will lead strategic direction, provide expert advice to the CEO, senior leaders and Trustees, and ensure statutory responsibilities and risk management are embedded.

Based in Somerset with flexible & hybrid working, the post holder will develop and deliver safety policies, oversee audits, support educational visits and deliver staff

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Health and Safety qualification.
• CMIOSH or working towards Chartered Membership.
• Significant senior Health and Safety experience within a complex, multi-site organisation.
• Experience of acting as a Competent Person and advising senior leaders or governance bodies.
• Experience of developing health and safety strategies, policies and assurance frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation and recognised best practice.
• A driver with access to a car.

Responsibilities

• Act as the Designated Competent Person, providing expert advice to the CEO, senior leaders, schools and Trustees.
• Develop and implement the Trust-wide Health and Safety Strategy, policies and procedures.
• Maintain oversight of Trust-wide health and safety risks and provide appropriate challenge, advice and assurance.
• Ensure effective systems are in place for risk management, statutory compliance and health and safety monitoring.
• Monitor changes in legislation and ensure Trust arrangements remain compliant and effective.
• Lead a programme of health and safety audits, inspections and compliance reviews, ensuring actions are followed through.
• Review risk assessments and control measures, providing specialist advice on high-risk activities.
• Lead the investigation and reporting of significant accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and lessons learned.
• Support schools with emergency and critical incident management.
• Work with Estates and school teams to provide assurance on statutory premises compliance, including fire, asbestos, water hygiene, electrical and gas safety.
• Provide strategic oversight of educational visits and off-site activities, working with Educational Visit Coordinators to ensure appropriate risk management and compliance.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training and guidance to ensure staff understand their responsibilities.
• Prepare clear reports for senior leaders, Trustees and committees on compliance, risks, incidents and improvement actions.
