The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) are recruiting for an exceptional opportunity supporting the delivery of Sizewell C – a 3.2-gigawatt power station set to supply clean, reliable electricity to around 6 million homes for at least the next 60 years. As we help shape the UK’s energy future through this critical national infrastructure project, we are seeking an accomplished Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Lead to join our Enabling and Earthworks stream – a role essential to achieving our project milestones.

If you are ready to influence safety culture on a project that truly matters, and possess the leadership and technical expertise to ensure the highest standards, we want to hear from you. Here is what you can expect in this key position:

What you will do:
  • Lead a team of HSW professionals, offering expert guidance and hands‑on support to operational teams across all stages of construction
  • Champion the implementation of our HSW strategy, ensuring full compliance with legal and project obligations
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, providing both strategic leadership and practical solutions
  • Collaborate with HR to drive recruitment and support team development
  • Undertake regular compliance evaluations, audits, and site tours to guarantee safety and assurance
  • Respond swiftly and effectively to events, leading investigations and reporting outcomes to both project and parent companies
  • Deliver training and advisory sessions to operational teams and Tier 2 contractors, fostering a culture of safety excellence and continuous improvement
  • Support the drive towards Zero Harm by promoting robust reporting and learning from incidents
  • Liaise with regulators, including ONR, and develop proactive working relationships
  • Encourage the adoption of lessons learned, supporting knowledge‑sharing across the project and wider alliance
What you will bring:
  • A proven record of leading and managing teams within major infrastructure projects
  • Deep technical expertise in health and safety legislation, regulation, and best practice
  • Demonstrable experience supporting both operational and functional teams at a senior level
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and inspire a positive safety culture
  • High proficiency in accident and incident investigation, with the skills to report and analyse data
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Manager competence
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (or actively working towards this)
  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety
What will set you apart:
  • Results‑driven attitude and a passion for raising standards
  • Collaborative approach, adept at building relationships and sharing expertise
  • Dedication to customer focus, adaptability, and continual professional growth
  • Sound working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
