We are recruiting an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to lead the full site safety agenda for a high–volume, complex manufacturing environment. This is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for embedding a world–class safety culture across a large single–site operation employing a diverse workforce.
The successful candidate will be both a strategic thinker and hands–on operator, capable of influencing at every level from shop–floor colleagues to senior executives and driving continuous improvement across all HSE disciplines.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead the site s overall Health, Safety & Environmental strategy, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and corporate standards.
- Act as the site s principal HSE advisor, providing expert guidance to the leadership team and operational managers.
- Drive a proactive, behavioural–based safety culture through coaching, training, and visible leadership.
- Own the site HSE management system, ensuring that policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work are fully up to date.
- Lead accident/incident investigations using root cause analysis; ensure corrective actions are implemented and audited.
- Manage internal and external audits (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001), ensuring the site maintains or exceeds certification requirements.
- Oversee COSHH, machinery safety, permit–to–work systems, emergency response planning, and contractor safety management.
- Ensure effective environmental controls covering waste, emissions, Continuous Improvement
- Drive HSE–focused improvement projects aligned with operational goals Lean, TPM, 5S, or equivalent methodologies.
Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards) or equivalent Level 6 HSE qualification.
- Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, chemical, or similar fast–paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience leading within a large single–site operation is highly desirable.
- Proven background influencing culture change and improving safety performance.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder–management skills.
