Job description

We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to lead and develop our site-wide HSE strategy. The successful candidate will ensure full compliance with legislation, drive a proactive safety culture, and support continuous improvement across all operational areas. This role will be the key point of expertise for risk management, environmental stewardship, and employee wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the site’s Health & Safety management systems.
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant H&S legislation, regulations, and company standards.
  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments, safe systems of work, and workplace inspections.
  • Lead incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective / preventive actions.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through training, engagement activities, and visible leadership.
Environmental Management
  • Manage the site’s environmental systems in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring, waste management, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with permits, emissions controls, and environmental reporting obligations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in energy efficiency, water usage, and carbon reduction.
Training & Compliance
  • Deliver or coordinate HSE training, ensuring competence across all operational teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, policies, and procedures aligned with ISO / OHSAS or equivalent standards.
  • Lead external audits, regulatory inspections, and certification processes (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
  • Maintain and report HSE metrics, KPIs, and performance dashboards.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Engagement
  • Act as the key contact for regulatory bodies, insurers, and industry partners.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, HR, and Technical teams to embed safe working practices.
  • Advise senior leadership on HSE risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven experience as an HSE Manager, Advisor, or Senior HSE professional in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of UK health & safety legislation and environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence safety culture and lead change.
  • Experience managing audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive improvements.
Qualifications
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent level qualification).
  • IOSH Chartered or working towards chartership (desirable).
  • Environmental qualification (IEMA Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Additional HSE training and industry-specific certifications are advantageous.
