Job description

We are recruiting an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to lead the full site safety agenda for a high-volume, complex manufacturing environment. This is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for embedding a world‑class safety culture across a large single-site operation employing a diverse workforce.

The successful candidate will be both a strategic thinker and hands‑on operator, capable of influencing at every level—from shop‑floor colleagues to senior executives—and driving continuous improvement across all HSE disciplines.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Lead the site's overall Health, Safety & Environment strategy, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and corporate standards.
  • Act as the site's principal HSE advisor, providing expert guidance to the leadership team and operational managers.
  • Drive a proactive, behaviour‑based safety culture through coaching, training and visible leadership.
  • Own the site HSE management system, ensuring that policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work are fully up to date.
  • Lead accident/incident investigations using root cause analysis; ensure corrective actions are implemented and audited.
  • Manage internal and external audits (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001), ensuring the site maintains or exceeds certification requirements.
  • Oversee COSHH, machinery safety, permit‑to‑work systems, emergency response planning and contractor safety management.
  • Ensure effective environmental controls covering waste, emissions, Continuous Improvement.
  • Drive HSE‑focused improvement projects aligned with operational goals—Lean, TPM, 5S or equivalent methodologies.
