Freelance Health & Safety Advisor – Bristol

Rate: £300 per day (outside IR35, depending on experience)
Location: Bristol – commutable from Bath, Swindon, Gloucester, and Newport

The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Freelance Health & Safety Advisor to lead site safety on a major construction and refurbishment project for a leading logistics client in Bristol. You’ll act as the on‑site Health and Safety lead, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and driving best practice across a busy multi‑contractor environment. This freelance position offers full autonomy, direct client interaction, and the chance to make a genuine impact on a flagship project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage Health & Safety across site operations and multiple contractors
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks
  • Promote a proactive safety culture across all site teams and subcontractors
  • Liaise with project managers and senior stakeholders to maintain compliance
  • Ensure full adherence to CDM Regulations and company procedures
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions
Requirements
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a construction‑based Health & Safety role, with strong CDM knowledge
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or higher qualification)
  • Proven experience in a client‑side safety advisory role
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Confident in challenging unsafe behaviours and influencing positive change
