Job Title: Health & Safety Advisor

Salary: £45,000 per annum with accrued holiday and pension contribution

Hours: 37 hours per week Monday-Friday

Role length: 12 months

Location: Please stipulate your location as there are offices throughout the UK so can be flexible on where you are based

Contract Type: Interim Contract

The role

You’ll support managers and colleagues within the Property Services, Development, and Asset Management directorates by providing expert advice on all health, safety, and welfare matters. Your role will ensure Aster Group meets its legal obligations and maintains high safety standards across all construction, repair, and maintenance activities. You’ll act as an advisor for both in-house and outsourced construction projects, supporting the development, review, and implementation of risk assessments and construction phase plans for high-risk work activities. Regular site inspections and audits will form a key part of your remit to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice to ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Support the Head of Health & Safety in implementing H&S strategy, policy, and procedures.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits across in-house and contractor teams.
  • Investigate incidents and report findings with practical recommendations.
  • Develop and deliver in-house H&S training and maintain training records.
  • Review and update policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Liaise with external bodies such as HSE, Fire Authorities, and insurers to maintain compliance.
  • Compile and analyse accident statistics for management reporting.
Who the client is looking for
  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (essential).
  • Membership of IOSH (essential); NEBOSH Diploma (desirable).
  • Demonstrable experience of applying H&S practices within a medium to large organisation.
  • Proven knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and experience advising Principal Contractors/Designers.
  • Strong track record in site audits, incident investigations, and producing reports.
  • Skilled in developing and reviewing H&S policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels.
  • Sound IT proficiency (Microsoft Office and safety management systems).
  • Full driving licence and flexibility to travel as required.
Desirable
  • Experience in social housing or construction environments.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Background in delivering H&S training.
