Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority is seeking a Health Physics Technician to protect people, facilities and the environment across its facilities. You will deliver specialist radiological protection and occupational hygiene services, and work with engineers and project teams to maintain safety and regulatory compliance.

Working as part of the Health Physics Group, you will operate with significant responsibility and autonomy, supporting incident response, audits and continuous safety improvements.

Qualifications

• Formal qualification in radiation safety (IRR17 familiarity essential).
• Experience with occupational hygiene monitoring and beryllium handling.
• Strong IT, reporting and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver routine radiological, airborne contamination and occupational hygiene monitoring.
• Provide Health Physics advice to engineers, technicians and Responsible Officers in radiological and beryllium areas.
• Supervise high-risk activities to ensure exposures remain ALARP.
• Respond to incidents and urgent Health Physics requests with monitoring and advice.
• Manage safe handling and disposal of radioactive and beryllium-contaminated waste.
• Prepare monitoring samples and produce clear technical reports.
