Job summary

Qualifications

• NVQ Level II in care or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide support within the SACT Services for nursing, medical and clerical staff; rotate between Chemotherapy unit and Outreach services.
• Undertake nursing care needs of patients; maintain privacy and dignity.
• Write reports of care given under a qualified nurse.
• Participate in nursing procedures relevant to the department.
• Support induction/training of junior Health Care Assistants.
• Rotate to phlebotomy; take requested blood from CVCs, porta Cath and peripheral veins.
• Rotate to cover outpatient clinics; room patients, record measurements, observe and liaise with medical staff.
• Act as team coordinator on treatment floor; ensure safe, timely throughput of patients.
• Assist during treatments and discharge patients on the treatment floor.
• Support chemotherapy outreach clinics, including Mobile Chemotherapy Unit.
• Escort patients to areas and collect blood products/chemotherapy from key departments.
• Assist in provision of meals / refreshments for patients; meet nutritional needs.
• Maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks to nurse in charge.
• Liaise with Estates re repairs and maintain records.
• Liaise with stores/stationery; assist in stock maintenance.
• Handle patients’ possessions; secure cash and valuables.
• Assist in safe storage of medicines and return unused chemotherapy to pharmacy.
• Assist medical staff with procedures.

An excellent opportunity has arisen to work as a band 3 within the SACT Outreach team, we deliver treatment at various locations across Manchester providing patients the opportunity to have treatment at home. Responsibilities

1. 1. Provide a supportive role within the SACT Services for nursing, medical and clerical Staff whilst providing rotational cover between the Chemotherapy unit and Outreach services.
2. 2. Undertake the nursing care needs of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity maintained.
3. 3. Write reports of care given under the covering signature of a qualified nurse.
4. 4. Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the department.
5. 5. Support and assist in the induction/training of junior Health Care Assistants.
6. 6. Rotate to cover the phlebotomy room taking requested blood from CVCs, porta Cath and peripherally.
7. 7. Rotate to cover outpatient clinics, responsible for rooming patients, height and weight recording, observations when necessary and lease with medical staff.
8. 8. Be able to act as a team co-ordinator on the treatment floor and ensure the safe and timely through put of patients.
9. 9. Rotate to work on the treatment floor, assisting nursing staff during treatments and discharging patients.
10. 10. Rotate to work on the chemotherapy outreach peripheral clinics, including the Mobile Chemotherapy Unit. To support the nursing staff in the care of patients whilst attending these clinics.
11. 11. Safely escort patients to other areas and collect blood products / chemotherapy from key departments.
12. 12. Assist in the provision of meals / refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional needs.
13. 13. Help to maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks etc to the nurse in charge.
14. 14. Liaise with the Estates department re repairs and maintain maintenance records.
15. 15. Liaise with nurse responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock levels.
16. 16. Handle patients personal possessions, ensure cash and valuables kept securely.
17. 17. Aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmacy.
18. 18. Assist medical staff with procedures.

Educational Development

1. 1. The Health Care Assistant is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development plan.
2. 2. Annually attend all mandatory study days including Principles and Practice of Intravenous Skills, Infection control, Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, moving and handling and fire safety.
3. 3. Annually update level one IV skills, including phlebotomy, Central line/ Peripheral Inserted Central Catheter management and Cannula care.
4. 4. To participate in and work towards the completion of the Christie Care Certificate.
