Job summary

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our team. The post holder will assist trained nurses in the care of critically ill patients and will ensure the smooth day to day running of the unit by attending to housekeeping duties. The successful applicant must be an excellent communicator who is able to demonstrate professionalism and initiative along with a caring and sensitive nature in a changing pace environment. The position is full time and the ability to work shifts including week-end and night shifts if required. Wycombe Hospital ICU is a 6 bedded unit and the team work across site between both ICUs. Stoke Mandeville Hospital is an acute general hospital within the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. The 12 bedded Intensive Care Unit provides care for patients from all specialities and is busy, friendly and committed to providing high standards of care.

Main duties of the job
  • Communicate with patients and their visitors in order to promote their comfort and well-being
  • Communication with other members of the organisation and respond appropriately
  • Assist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Make unoccupied beds and occupied beds.
  • Assist patients out of bed, helping with dressing and undressing as required
  • Wash/bathe patients in bed and in the bathroom.
  • Care of hands and feet of patients in bed.
  • Observe patients' skin and report any red marks or blemishes to nursing staff in charge.
  • Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Trust Moving and Handling policy
  • Under direction of trained nurse, assist with the treatment/management of patients with insect infestations.
  • Report Accidents/incidents to nurse in charge and complete appropriate Trust forms.
  • Chaperone Medical Staff.

  • Level 2 or Level 3 (NVQ) in health and Social Care or equivalent relevant experience
