Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Great North Healthcare private GP clinic in the heart of Newcastle. Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse Management/GP doctors and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. In this role, you will provide essential support to individuals in care homes and home care settings, ensuring their comfort and well-being. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a good understanding of general practice, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Duties and responsibilities
- ECG/24 hour ECG recording
- Phlebotomy including annual reviews
- Chaperoning duties
- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
- Surgical equipment and stock rotation including stock ordering
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
- Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
- Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
- 24 Hour BP monitor fitting and removal
- Dressings
- Removal of stitches
- Ear syringing
- Vaccinations including vitamin B12, influenza, pneumo, shingles
- Health promotion (including smoking cessation)
Essential Qualifications
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification in healthcare.
Essential Experience
- Ability to work as part of a General Practice team.
- Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the HCA role.
- Ability to communicate information in an understandable way to patients and colleagues, adapting communication style to meet the needs of the recipient.
- Willing to develop clinical skills and competency relevant to the role and willing to undertake further training related to role, as required.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- General understanding of confidentiality requirements in a healthcare setting.
- Be enthusiastic and reliable.
- Be available for overtime to cover sickness, holidays.
Desirable Experience
- Experience of working in General Practice as a Healthcare Assistant.
