Qualifications

  • Degree or professional qualification in Health and Safety e.g. NEBOSH Diploma.

Location: Wakefield College with frequent work at Castleford & Selby Colleges.
Salary: £45,734 - £48,514 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Weeks: 52 weeks per year

Job Summary

We have an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Health and Safety Manager to join our Estates team across all three of our campuses. You will be responsible for managing and directing the Group’s Health and Safety function, ensuring a safe, healthy and legally compliant environment for all students, staff, visitors and contractors. The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has three College campuses in Wakefield, Castleford and Selby, where you will lead the teams on the development, implementation and rigorous oversight of the Group’s Health and Safety strategies, ensuring full statutory compliance with current legislation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the ongoing development, implementation, and review of the Group’s Health & Safety Strategy, ensuring continuous improvement, legal compliance, and alignment with the Group’s wider strategic objectives.
  • Maintain full oversight and control of compliance with all statutory requirements including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, COSHH, RIDDOR and Fire Safety legislation.
  • Develop organisational readiness to respond to current and future challenges, including terrorism and hostile threats, through effective counter‑terrorism measures and protective security planning.
  • Manage and support the integration of health and safety within the Estates ISO 9001 Quality Management System and act as the lead authority for all associated compliance records and audit evidence.
  • Lead the operational management of the Group’s safety software systems, overseeing the consistent recording and review of risk assessments, audits, inspections and corrective actions across all sites.
Qualifications
  • GCSE English and Maths A*-C/9-4 or equivalent.
  • Degree or professional qualification in Health and Safety e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ Level 6 or equivalent.
  • Membership of IOSH.
  • First Aid at Work qualification, or willingness to undertake.
  • ISO9001 – Internal Auditor or willingness to undertake.
