Important

Experience managing health and safety within construction or marine environments.

In this role, you will design a framework to support my client in their approach to identifying, managing, measuring, monitoring, and reporting health, safety, and environmental risks. You will assist the Head of Support Services in managing H&S risks to meet the company's objectives.

You will manage the day-to-day activities of the experienced Health & Safety Team, including a large community of motivated Health and Safety Representatives.

You will lead and develop a team of four to ensure statutory compliance (section 7), foster a safety-oriented culture, and develop policies, strategies, and budgets to keep the workforce safe and healthy.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Setting out commitments to high and improving H&S standards and ensuring compliance with strategic aims and objectives.
  • Supporting policies and procedures for all identified risks, ensuring compliance with current statutory provisions and regulations.
  • Managing the daily operations of the Health, Safety, and Environmental Department, including the reporting system.
  • Advising and supporting management to maintain compliance with current and future regulatory provisions related to H, S, and E.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures with the change management team to ensure standards are applied across the business.
  • Reporting incidents in line with statutory requirements.
  • Reviewing incidents and accident reports to drive continuous improvement and ensure workplace controls are effective.
  • Providing safety data analysis, including root cause and trend analysis, and issuing safety alerts for lessons learned.
  • Managing the training team to deliver instruction on hazard identification, risks, and controls.

Desired skills and attributes

  • Experience managing risk, safety, quality, and environmental management systems, particularly ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001, within large construction or shipbuilding organizations.
  • IT literacy, including Power BI and Microsoft Office, for data presentation to decision-makers.
  • Approachable, professional, and influential communication skills to build relationships across all levels.
  • Organized, methodical, and self-motivated approach.
  • Strong management and leadership skills with a business focus.
  • Fully qualified in Health and Safety Management (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent). (Please do not apply if you only hold the NEBOSH certificate)
  • Recent CPD activity.
