Job Summary
Location: Midlands, working on various sites across the region.
Rate Guide: £50k (Neg DOE), car/allowance plus excellent benefits package.
The Role: Our client is a Tier 1 contractor within the water industry delivering a major part of Severn Trent Water’s AMP 8 programme. They are seeking to strengthen their SHEQ team with a Regional Health & Safety Advisor. Based in the Severn Trent region on various projects, you will fulfil the day‑to‑day H&S duties and contribute to the management and development of the regional safety strategy.
Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Health and Safety Manager.
- Provide support to the project team to enable compliance with health and safety legislation and the implementation of HSE guidance and best practice.
- Carry out systematic audits and inspections of construction sites to verify compliance with legislative requirements and the health and safety management system.
- Monitor the satisfactory resolution of health and safety problems.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to identify root causes and learning points.
- Assist the project team with the preparation of risk assessments and identification of suitable control measures when required.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of safety‑related documentation (manuals, procedures, guidance notes and forms).
- Liaise with clients, HSE Inspectors and external assessors.
- Sustain and build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships with the site team.
- Support the development of the project team in creating a positive health and safety culture.
Experience & Qualifications
- Extensive experience in health and safety practice, preferably in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of current and pending HSE directives and statutory health and safety law in the UK.
- Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and good practice guidance.
- Knowledge and experience of ISO 45001 (or similar management systems).
- Formal qualification in Occupational Safety and Health (e.g., NEBOSH Construction Certificate).
- CSCS card or affiliated scheme (SHEA Water).
