Job description

We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Wyre Forestto assist with the appointment of a Health and Safety Advisor on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £20.43- £25.97 per hour

Summary

The Corporate Health and Safety Advisor acts as the professional lead and coordinator for all health, safety, fire, and welfare issues across Wyre Forest District Council. This role serves as the Council’s "competent person" under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. The post holder is responsible for delivering a robust health and safety management system that ensures corporate compliance with statutory requirements while promoting a positive safety culture throughout the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Provide professional advice on all health and safety matters, acting as a liaison with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other regulatory bodies.
  • Oversight of the Council's "High Risk List" register and ensuring that risk assessments contain adequate measures to control significant hazards.
  • Maintain a database of accidents and incidents, undertaking statistical analysis and ensuring all work‑related deaths or dangerous occurrences are reported in accordance with RIDDOR.
  • Specifically coordinate health and safety activities at the Green Street Depot, assisting with key projects and maintaining industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with trade union representatives to facilitate an effective health and safety committee and undertake joint inspections.
Qualifications
  • Degree level or equivalent qualification
  • NEBOSH (EBOSH) diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or an equivalent qualification.
Essentials
  • A minimum of 3 years of occupational experience specifically in health and safety law.
  • Previous experience in a health and safety advisor role within a similar‑sized organization, ideally within local government service delivery.
  • Proven experience in producing detailed reports containing audit observations and identified remedial actions with defined completion timescales.
  • A full UK driving license.
