Job summary

Safety Talent Limited in Birmingham is seeking a freelance Health & Safety Advisor to support a specialist subcontractor on the HS2 project. This is a hands-on, site-based role working with operational teams and project management within a major infrastructure environment.

The ideal candidate has HS2/tunnelling experience, NEBOSH certificate, and a full UK driving licence. The position pays up to £550 per day inside IR35 for a six-month contract, with regular site inspections and safety

Qualifications

• Experience in construction, civils, infrastructure, rail or tunnelling.
• Strong RAMS, inspections and site compliance skills.
• Knowledge of plant, lifting operations and site logistics.
• Ability to work directly with operational teams and site management.
• NEBOSH certificate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Carry out regular site inspections and identify H&S issues before they develop into formal non-conformances
• Review RAMS, permits, briefings, plant records and training documentation
• Support updates to RAMS where methodology, access, plant or site conditions change
• Monitor compliance with project, client and company H&S requirements
• Manage plant and labour compliance, including certification, competency and inductions
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and support corrective actions
• Close out H&S observations and maintain action tracking
• Support audits, inspections and weekly HSEQ reviews
• Review upcoming works and identify H&S requirements in advance
• Support higher-risk activities including lifting operations, temporary works and plant movements
• Carry out tunnel-specific compliance checks including access, emergency arrangements, ventilation and rescue
• Monitor traffic management, plant-person segregation and occupational health risks
• Support environmental compliance and site controls
• Deliver toolbox talks and support workforce safety engagement
• Attend planning and coordination meetings to ensure H&S risks are identified early

We are looking for an experienced freelance Health & Safety Advisor to support a specialist subcontractor working on HS2 in Birmingham.

This is a hands-on, site-based role working closely with operational teams and project management across a major infrastructure and tunnelling environment.

The role would particularly suit someone with experience in HS2, tunnelling, major civils, rail, utilities or another high-risk construction environment.

Experience Required

• Previous H&S experience within construction, civils, infrastructure, rail or tunnelling
• Strong experience with RAMS, inspections, incident investigation and site compliance
• Good understanding of plant, lifting operations and site logistics
• Confident working directly with operational teams and site management
• NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
• Full UK driving licence
• Previous HS2 or tunnelling experience would be highly desirable.

This is a 6-month, site-based contract in Birmingham paying up to £550 per day inside IR35.
