Job summary

A leading staffing agency is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation. The role involves conducting regular site inspections, incident management, and training delivery. This position is remote with some travel to Warwick, and is initially for 6 months.

Job title: Health and Safety Advisor

Location: Remote – some travel to Warwick

Duration: 6 months initially

The role

This role involves site–based projects deploying new tools and capabilities to reduce cyber risk. Health & Safety remains a key part of the programme, ensuring secure and compliant delivery as these improvements are rolled out.

As Health & Safety Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe planning, execution, and completion of construction–related activities within the SS&I GT Cyber Programme. You will be responsible for ensuring that all baseline health and safety training, assurance, and compliance requirements are consistently met throughout the lifecycle of each project.

Responsibilities
  • Regulatory Compliance:Ensure stringent compliance with all relevant statutory health and safety legislation, including but not limited to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, and key secondary legislation such as CDM 2015, Control of Asbestos Regs 2012, PUWER, LOLER, and RIDDOR.
  • Inspections and Audits:Implement a structured and proactive programme of regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and drive the implementation and enforcement of corrective actions.
  • Risk Assessment Guidance:Review and provide expert guidance on Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for high–risk activities, specifically those involving work on live gas sites, electrical OT/IT installations, and near live gas assets.
  • Incident Management:ensure awareness and ownership of SS&I IMS actions and actively monitor any IMS entries raised via SS&I; support incident investigations, ensuring thorough root cause analysis is conducted and that lessons learned are effectively documented, communicated, and embedded within operational practices.
  • Competency Management:Oversee and advise on the management of Safety Technical Competencies (STC), ensuring alignment with established SkillStation profiles for all SS&I programme personnel.
  • Training and Development Collaboration:Work in partnership with the Business Change and Transition (BCT) and Training teams to identify, document, and recommend necessary H&S training requirements and process improvements for roles across the SS&I programme.
  • Training Delivery and Support:Support delivery of essential safety training in line with STC and SkillStation requirements and support the development of toolbox talks to ensure clear understanding of H&S responsibilities among Project Managers, Engineers, and site teams.
  • Safety Culture Promotion:Champion a positive safety culture through active engagement with senior leaders, project teams, contractors, and third–party stakeholders.
  • Project Integration:Provide essential H&S input during project planning and mobilisation phases, ensuring that potential risks are identified and effectively mitigated from the outset.
  • Strategic Initiatives and Improvement:Support strategic safety initiatives, including internal and external compliance inspections (e.g., ISO 45001 alignment) and continuous improvement activities defined by business processes, policy, and to be adopted Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Adaptability and Performance:Adapt quickly to evolving business needs and deliver consistently against key performance indicators (KPIs) related to risk identification, reduction, and overall H&S performance.
  • Risk Identification and Trend Analysis:Proactively identify and monitor all H&S–related risks, issues, dependencies. Analyse these to identify recurring trends and more efficient reporting methods, ensuring timely and relevant communication to stakeholders and management.
Requirements
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
  • Experience conducting and reviewing RAMS and safe systems of work
  • Familiarity with working on and in high‑risk environments such as COMAH Terminals and Gas Compressor Station
  • Competent in incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Proficiency with safety management systems and digital reporting tools – desirable
  • Additional training in incident investigation, behavioural safety, or auditing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate safety message and learning
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management / Consultancy: Experience of using established consulting activities and techniques including facilitating stakeholder groups for eliciting stakeholder requirements.
  • NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety (or equivalent)
  • IOSH membership (TechIOSH or above)
