Head Teacher, Eoligarry Primary School (1392)
35 hours per week, Fixed term position to 16 August 2026
£69,055 per annum, inclusive of £2,997 Distant Island Allowance per annum

The role of the Head Teacher is to promote high quality learning and teaching to secure improved educational outcomes for the benefit of pupils and the community through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by the Department under the overall direction of the Director of Education, Skills and Children’s Services. Head Teachers have a Corporate Responsibility to contribute to an agenda of ongoing improvement in their school and across the authority area.

The Head Teacher shall be accountable for the following duties and for such other duties as can reasonably be attached to the post.

  • Responsibility for the leadership, good management and strategic direction of the school.
  • Responsibility for school policy for the behaviour management of pupils.
  • The management of all staff, and the provision of professional advice and guidance to colleagues.
  • The management and development of a bilingual curriculum in accordance with national and local priorities and policies.
  • Responsibility for providing strategic leadership for curriculum development, learning and teaching and meeting learners’ needs.
  • Ensuring that the progress of the pupils of the school is monitored and recorded.
  • Arranging for parents to be consulted and given regular information about the school and the progress of their children and in particular to make arrangements for meetings between parents and teachers.
  • The management of school finances and other resources and in accordance with the Authority’s Scheme of Devolved School Management.
  • Acting as adviser to the Parent Council.
  • Participation in the selection and appointment of staff to the school and in accordance with staff recruitment procedures
  • Promote high expectations and standards through the provision of professional advice, reviewing professional needs and performance, and supporting continuous professional development of colleagues ensuring that all staff receive an opportunity to have an annual review of their development needs.
  • Develop a programme of improvement through self-evaluation at all levels in the school and involving all staff.
  • Working in partnership with parents, other professionals, agencies and schools.
  • Organising the supervision necessary for promoting and ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all personnel within the school premises and of pupils at all times when in the school’s care.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Comhairle’s Non Smoking at Work policy.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may need to be allocated from time to time to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the service.

The post of Head Teacher also includes a teaching commitment.

GTC Scotland Registration and several years’ experience of delivering the curriculum across all primary stages are essential for the post.

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme as a legal requirement of a regulated role with Children (Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme - mygov.scot).
