Bis Henderson Recruitment is partnering with a growing logistics business in Luton to appoint a Head of Transport who will own a busy operation and help drive growth. You will lead transport managers, planners and drivers, shaping the transport function and improving performance across the fleet.

The role requires proven senior transport management experience, a CPC, and strong knowledge of UK transport legislation.

Head of Transport

Location: Luton
Salary: £55,000-£70,000

An exciting opportunity to join a growing business with an excellent reputation in the market, as Head of Transport, taking ownership of a busy transport operation and playing a key role in its continued growth.

With a fleet of approximately 60 trucks, this is an opportunity for an experienced transport professional to lead from the front, develop the team and drive improvements across fleet performance, service delivery, compliance and operational efficiency.

The Role

• Take overall responsibility for the day‑to‑day running and performance of the transport operation.
• Lead, develop and motivate transport managers, planners, drivers and support teams.
• Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, operator licensing, drivers’ hours, tachographs and vehicle maintenance requirements.
• Manage fleet utilisation, vehicle availability, route planning and resource allocation.
• Drive improvements in cost control, productivity, fuel efficiency and overall fleet performance.
• Monitor KPIs, service levels and customer satisfaction, taking ownership of operational challenges and resolving issues effectively.
• Work closely with senior leadership and other departments to support business growth and continuous improvement.
• Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety, ensuring a culture of accountability and operational excellence.

About You

• Proven experience in a senior transport management role, ideally within a sizeable fleet operation.
• A valid Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is essential.
• Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, operator licensing and fleet compliance.
• Experience leading transport teams and managing a fleet of significant scale.
• Commercially aware, with a track record of improving operational performance and controlling costs.
• A hands‑on, proactive leader who can balance strategic planning with the demands of a fast‑paced transport operation.
• Excellent communication, organisation and problem‑solving skills.
