Overview

The post holder will be responsible for the operational development and delivery of therapy, quality and clinical practice at divisional level. As part of the divisional management team, the Head of Therapies will work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Therapies to provide assurance to the Executive Team and Board of Directors that robust systems of governance and performance management are in place and that high quality patient led services are being developed and delivered.

As part of the Community Senior Management Team, the post holder will support the Associate Director of Therapies and contribute to developing the strategic direction and implementation of the therapies and wider Community Divisional Strategy whilst ensuring care is delivered at a high standard and quality.

This post is designed to co-ordinate the monitoring of key quality performance indicators to identify areas of good practice and support areas requiring development, including the lead for the risk management function within the Community Division.

The post holder will work in partnership with the Trust Risk Management team on all areas of risk that include clinical incidents, serious clinical incidents, complaints, litigation, compliance and the wider Trust Clinical Governance.

The post holder will support the division to deliver the Quality Improvement agenda, including horizon scanning to identify areas where the division can lead on quality improvement to provide high quality care for our patients.

Responsibilities include supporting the Divisional Clinical Governance agenda, working to ensure Patient Safety and Quality Boards function effectively, and contributing to delivery of divisional KPIs, SLAs and Quality Indicators.

Responsibilities
  • Champion the therapy priorities and support performance monitoring and reporting arrangements to demonstrate progress within the Division.
  • Support the Associate Director of Therapies in planning and management of projects and the implementation of change across the Trust, maintaining professional relationships and encouraging multi-professional collaboration.
  • Support the implementation of the Trust’s governance and risk management strategies and maintain divisional risk and compliance registers.
  • Work with risk management and PALS to ensure complaints and incidents are dealt with appropriately with actions agreed and effective monitoring.
  • Be the Community Therapy lead for patient and quality initiatives; develop and embed patient stories and ensure patient experience is core to service improvement.
  • Support the division in preparing for assessments and inspections from external bodies.
  • Ensure workforce models are assessed and evaluated; make recommendations to the division and trust board as required.
  • Participate in wider trust organisational development programmes and take a lead role where appropriate.
  • Support the senior divisional team in delivering divisional KPIs, SLAs and Quality Indicators.
  • Lead investigations of incident reporting, serious complaints and safeguarding investigations within the Division and ensure learning across the division and trust.
  • Be visible and accessible to services, departments and teams; work clinically to support and develop teams when necessary.
  • Support the Divisional Clinical Governance agenda and ensure Patient Safety and Quality Boards function effectively.
  • Lead on research and audit within therapy services and inform staff training needs and service improvements.
  • Support Therapy Service Leads and Clinical Leads in reviewing dependency and acuity across inpatient and community services with data presentation using approved tools.
  • Comply with the professional standards and codes of the HCPC.
  • Act as a role model, mentor and coach; ensure direct reports are supported to achieve their potential with clear goals aligned to division and organisation.
  • Contribute to the development of in-house education and training programmes and monitor compliance with professional standards including appraisal, mandatory training and behaviour.
  • Support the development, implementation, response rate and evaluation of Patient-Related Experience Measures (PREMs) and respond to patient feedback to improve services.
  • Inform and influence staff training needs in line with the Divisional training strategy.
  • Ensure mandatory training is undertaken by Therapy Services Managers, Team Leads and Clinical Leads as identified in the Divisional training strategy; manage additions or removals of mandatory training as needed.
  • Responsible for community therapy budgets and ensuring targets are met, including bank and agency spend, cost improvement targets and resource management.
  • Provide clinical and professional supervision as required to groups or individuals.
  • Maintain a high profile within clinical areas and participate in Trust arrangements for Clinical Governance.
  • Collaborate with Therapy Services Managers to optimise operational, financial and workforce utilisation; collect, monitor and evaluate data on operational, financial and workforce performance across the Community Therapies Directorate.
  • Work with the wider organisation and external providers towards local and National strategies; represent therapy services at internal and external forums and deputise for the Associate Director of Therapies as required.
  • Participate in the Community on-call rota.
