Job description

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for the Head of Student Marketing & Recruitment to join the University’s College of Social Sciences (CoSS). We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking leader to oversee student recruitment and marketing on a College-wide basis.

In this influential role, you will develop and implement student marketing and recruitment strategies for CoSS, establish a matrix management approach with School leads, define and monitor shared KPIs, and provide insights to support strategic planning. You will also manage recruitment and marketing budgets, ensuring efficient resource deployment.

You will act as the key liaison with central External Relations, aligning activities with institutional objectives and contributing to policy development.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of digital marketing, market intelligence, and student recruitment methods, with substantial experience in a senior marketing or recruitment role within higher education or a similar complex organization. Experience in international student recruitment and transnational education is essential.

Job Purpose:

To provide strategic leadership and oversight of student recruitment and marketing activities across CoSS, developing and implementing strategies in collaboration with School leads and External Relations to ensure alignment with university priorities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and recruitment strategies aligned with university objectives.
  2. Manage the College-based recruitment and marketing team and establish a matrix management approach with School teams.
  3. Define and monitor shared KPIs, providing market intelligence and insights to inform strategic decisions.
  4. Act as the principal interface with External Relations, ensuring policy alignment.
  5. Oversee recruitment and marketing planning and budgets for optimal ROI.
  6. Coordinate cross-College campaigns, ensure brand consistency, and manage relationships with external agencies.
  7. Foster a community of practice among marketing professionals within CoSS.
  8. Lead international student recruitment initiatives and partnerships, aligning with university goals.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential:

  • A degree at SCQF level 9, 10, or 11 or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, market intelligence, and student recruitment methodologies.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements in higher education marketing.
  • Familiarity with the higher education landscape and student recruitment challenges.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in marketing or related field.

Experience:

  • Senior marketing or recruitment experience in higher education or similar complex organization.
  • Experience managing budgets and evaluating ROI.
  • Experience in international student recruitment and transnational education.
  • Proven strategic planning and leadership skills.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and strategy development.
  • Ability to build relationships across departments and with external partners.

Terms and Conditions:

Salary: Grade 8, £49,559 - £57,422 per annum.

This is a full-time (35 hours/week), open-ended position. Relocation assistance available.
