Job summary

A leading UK B2B energy supplier is seeking an experienced Head of Health and Safety to lead the health and safety strategy across all UK operations. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with UK legislation, drive a proactive safety culture, and provide leadership across office and field teams. Applicants must have a relevant health and safety diploma and proven experience in the utilities sector.

Location: Based in Leicester (LE3) and Nottingham (NG8), with travel across Great Britain as needed, plus a car allowance.

Working Hours: Full Time Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week / Part Time also considered.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Health and Safety to lead our health and safety strategy across all UK operations. This is a pivotal role that will ensure compliance, drive continuous improvement, and foster a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.

As a hands on senior professional we would be looking to you to provide visible leadership in developing a modern, progressive SHEQ culture, befitting of a fast moving commercial and increasingly complex technical business.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll be doing:
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive health and safety strategy aligned with Yu Group’s values and operational goals.
  • Leading the ongoing development of the SHEQ Management systems to ensure they remain up to date and appropriate to the business as it grows.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation and industry standards across both our office and field teams.
  • Leading risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring timely and effective resolution, promoting a learning culture.
  • Providing expert guidance and training to the Directors, managers and teams across the business.
  • Collaborating with senior leadership to embed health and safety into business planning and decision-making.
  • Monitoring and report on performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Liaising with the Health and Safety Executive and other regulatory bodies as required.
  • Working with HR on Occupational Health and workforce initiatives.
  • Flexibility and mobility to provide proactive and visible leadership across multiple sites both office and field proving training, support and review of activities.

  • Hold a NEBOSH/NCRQ Diploma or NVQ 5 (or equivalent) and relevant membership of IOS.
  • Proven experience in a senior health and safety role within utilities (electricity, gas and water), or similar sector.
  • Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills comfortable engaging at Board level to Field operative.
  • Ability to influence and drive culture change across diverse teams and environments.
  • Strong knowledge of 2015 CDM regulations and health and safety best practice
  • Experience of, and a propensity to, roll your sleeves up and show visible leadership.
