Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is assisting a high-achieving secondary academy in Preston, Lancashire to appoint an ambitious Head of Science to lead Biology, Chemistry and Physics across KS3-5. This full-time, permanent role combines strategic leadership with curriculum design, laboratory safety oversight (CLEAPSS) and a strong focus on GCSE and A-Level outcomes, performance data, and university preparation.

Start in January.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or UK equivalents with a science honours degree.
• Proven track record of strong GCSE and A-Level outcomes with leadership.
• Up-to-date knowledge of CLEAPSS safety standards and secondary science specs.
• Active DBS check on Update Service or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction, curriculum oversight, and operational management for the Science faculty
• Teach inspiring Biology, Chemistry, or Physics lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5
• Lead, line-manage, and mentor teaching staff and laboratory support
• Enforce statutory CLEAPSS health and safety standards across all prep rooms and laboratories
• Track student assessment data, implement targeted interventions, and oversee exam board preparation
• Coordinate co-curricular STEM initiatives, university preparation, and practical science fairs
