Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Head Office. UK-based (national and occasional international travel required)

About the Role

The leading engineering organisation is seeking a Head of Projects to lead a high-performing project management function delivering complex, multi-disciplinary EPC and design & build projects. This pivotal role will drive delivery excellence, continuous improvement, and client satisfaction across a diverse project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Project Management team, setting clear objectives and driving a strong delivery culture.
  • Oversee the full EPC project lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Maintain oversight of live projects and report performance to senior management.
  • Ensure robust project governance, including cost tracking, scheduling, forecasting, and gate reviews.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project management processes and tools.
  • Collaborate across functions - Engineering, Construction, SCM, SHEQ, Finance - to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Support bid and proposal activities, ensuring smooth handover from sales to execution.
  • Monitor KPIs and implement early interventions where performance issues arise.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven track record managing EPC or complex design & build projects in sectors such as renewables, subsea, oil & gas, or defence.
  • Strong leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent understanding of project management methodologies (APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent).
  • Commercially astute, with experience in contract negotiation and improving project financial performance.
  • Strong knowledge of project controls, risk management, scheduling (preferably P6), and cost forecasting.
  • Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and client-facing skills.
