Job description

Handley James Chemical are excited to be engaged as the search partner to a family owned, billion turnover chemical business with both distribution and manufacturing capabilities. With over 60 years in chemical distribution market, they serve as an interface between chemical manufacturers and the chemical processing industry.

Providing a full service along the supply chain, including procurement, product development, individual mixing, logistics and manufacturing. Following exciting growth and the creation of a number of key roles, we are currently recruiting for a Head of Product Management (Commodities), who will support the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage a team of Senior Procurement and Sourcing Specialists and a Procurement Assistant
  • Lead and support on supplier tendering and selection
  • Negotiate new and renegotiate existing supplier contracts
  • Lead on sourcing initiatives to maintain a stable supply of products
  • Establish strategic relationships with the supply base and implement supplier management strategies
  • Work closely with the Business Units to understand their needs, objectives and priorities to optimise total cost, quality and service
  • Work closely with the Business Units to ensure quality products have been sourced, quality assessed and procured
  • Work closely with the Logistics and Warehouse teams to manage the supply chain and supplier lead times
  • Manage and grow the approved suppliers list
  • Lead on ongoing supplier performance reviews and KPI management
  • Develop the procurement strategy for the Western Hub
  • Support and lead process improvement initiatives
  • Be responsible for the Procurement department meeting or exceeding their KPI targets
  • Oversee the work of my direct reports providing support, direction and leadership
Required experience
  • Proven experience within a Product Management or Head of Product Management role within a similar market within a distributor/manufacturer
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Experience within or knowledge of, Solvents, Life Sciences, Commodities
  • Track record of coaching, leading teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
  • Experience working within a UK/European chemical distributor.
  • Familiarity with REACH, CLP, ESG and regulatory frameworks.

This role will suit an experienced Product Manager/Leader, someone who knows how to coach and develop existing teams and is a visible individual – someone who will travel to meet with their team, customers, suppliers etc. You will be instrumental in shaping how the commodities division grows, works and what the future of the team looks like.
