Salary: circa £70,000 + car allowance + bonus

You will be responsible for shaping procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, optimising inventory planning, and driving process improvements across the organisation.

The role of the Head of Procurement & Materials Planning
  • Design and implement procurement strategies that support project schedules, budgets, and overall business objectives.
  • Manage supplier and subcontractor selection, evaluation, and performance to ensure quality, reliability, and value.
  • Lead tendering processes for contracts and procurement packages, including documentation, bid assessment, and award recommendations.
  • Negotiate terms, pricing, and delivery agreements to achieve the best commercial outcomes.
  • Collaborate with project teams and site operations to understand material needs and schedule requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, industry standards, and legal obligations.
  • Introduce and leverage digital tools and ERP systems to improve procurement efficiency and visibility.
  • Partner with Finance and Operations to align procurement plans with cash flow and budget considerations.
  • Monitor market trends and pricing to adjust sourcing strategies proactively.
  • Identify cost‑saving opportunities and drive continuous improvement across procurement processes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing procurement and materials planning team.
  • Promote collaboration across supply chain, commercial, finance and production functions.
The ideal candidate for the Head of Procurement & Materials Planning
  • Extensive experience in procurement, supply chain management, and materials planning, with a progressive leadership track record.
  • Experience managing both strategic sourcing and inventory/materials planning.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and ERP/system management capabilities.
  • Exceptional negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on optimising the supply chain and materials planning.
  • Proven leadership and ability to work across multiple functions.
  • Data‑driven approach to demand planning, forecasting, and supplier performance management.
  • Commitment to ethical, sustainable, and risk‑aware decision‑making.
  • Professional certifications such as CIPS, APICS, CSCP, CPSM, or equivalent – desirable but not essential.
