Job summary

Thomas Telford UTC in Wolverhampton is looking for an inspirational Head of Department for Physical Education to lead its high-performing PE team from September 2026. The role involves teaching GCSE and BTEC qualifications, ensuring excellent student engagement, and maintaining high standards of attendance. Thomas Telford UTC will be situated in a brand new, purpose‑built building in Wolverhampton city centre at the Springfield Campus. The UTC buildings form the first stage of the £100 million regeneration of the Springfield Campus led by the University of Wolverhampton to form a national centre of excellence for Architecture and the Built Environment.

We are looking for an aspirational and exceptional Head of Department teacher to join our high performing PE department which prides itself on high‑quality teaching, strong resources, and a collaborative ethos. Must have the ability to teach to GCSE PE, BTEC Level 2 and 3. You will have a central responsibility for leading and directing the learning and operational management of the subject of PE to reflect both TTUTC and local and national priorities and to personalise routes for all students and ensuring rigorous and continuous monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of subject provision. Your leadership will ensure that PE learning is exciting and engaging and delivered in partnership with Thomas Telford Multi Academy Trust and our other industry partners so that our young people are motivated to strive for excellence.
