The Financial Markets Infrastructure (FMI) team's key focus is to support business growth by centrally managing our relationships with FMIs and intermediary institutions. We achieve this through delivering robust risk management, commercial oversight, and market insights.

We are currently seeking a professional to join our team in the role of: Head of Payment System Risk.

As part of our expanding team, you will play a pivotal leadership role in enhancing our global oversight capabilities, specifically in managing risks associated with Payment Systems (PS). You will be instrumental in shaping and developing this new function within the FMI team, ensuring effective risk management and strategic growth.

In this role you will:
  • Design and execute a risk management and governance operating model for Payment Systems with the support of the wider FMI Management team and FMI Transformation team and build a risk framework/function dedicated to risk oversight, due diligence and resiliency management of PSs.
  • Set up and oversee the management of a global relationship repository for PSs, to fulfil regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Spearhead the creation of a governance framework for Payment Systems, ensuring the risk management model is rolled out with global consistency in addition to managing significant risks identified through risk assessment or ongoing monitoring through appropriate committees and governance forums.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to define the PS risk management framework and conduct risk reviews on payment systems, and coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure identified exposures are managed efficiently.
  • Assess the contingency plans of Payment Systems as well as regulatory changes to ensure our resiliency and establish a process to monitor PS rulebook changes, ensuring all modifications are reviewed and associated risks are managed.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Proven experience with in-depth knowledge of Payment Systems as a type of FMI, including global regulatory frameworks, industry standards and operational resilience.
  • Strong expertise in risk identification, assessment, mitigation and monitoring, specifically tailored to Payment Systems.
  • In-depth understanding of key industry regulatory development around Payment Systems, e.g. ISO 20022, real-time payments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously and collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior management effectively.
  • A self-starter with demonstrable expertise in strategic thinking and impact analysis to effectively navigate and adapt to evolving regulatory environments.

This role is based in London.
