Overview

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is seeking to appoint a Head of Patient Safety to lead, manage and develop all aspects of patient safety, including the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and quality governance within the Trust.

The post holder will develop, lead, implement and sustain an effective Trust patient safety strategy at both strategic and operational levels in line with the national patient safety strategy, and will lead the patient safety committee. They will also oversee the process of patient safety investigations, learning, assurance mechanisms, patient safety/quality improvement projects and monitoring effectiveness, and will lead on PSIRF learning responses where appropriate, along with Duty of Candour conversations with patients and families. This role offers an opportunity to establish and develop a high‑performing patient safety and quality governance function across a multi‑site organisation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, lead, implement and sustain the Trust’s patient safety strategy at both strategic and operational levels in alignment with the national and Quality Strategies; lead the implementation of PSIRF.
• Manage the process of patient safety investigations, learning, assurance mechanisms, patient safety/quality improvement projects and monitoring effectiveness.
• Support governance mechanisms so Divisional staff can manage patient safety investigations and implement learning effectively.
• Ensure effective safety reporting mechanisms and engagement with external stakeholders, including the National Reporting and Learning System, NHS England and commissioners; produce assurance reporting on patient safety management and its links with learning and quality improvement.
• Operationally lead across the quality governance agenda, including complaints and PALs, and act as deputy to the Deputy Director of Quality Governance.
