Head of Nursing, Quality, and Infection Prevention & Control

This is a unique and inspiring opportunity for an exceptional nursing leader to influence the future of patient care across a forward-thinking, values-led healthcare organisation. As Head of Nursing, Quality, and Infection Prevention & Control, you will shape the strategic vision for nursing, driving clinical excellence, innovation, and compassionate, safe practice across diverse services.

Working in close partnership with senior colleagues and system partners, you will lead the development of robust governance structures, evidence-based care, and transformation initiatives that enhance both staff experience and patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide strategic nursing leadership to ensure the consistent delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care across all clinical services.
  • Lead the implementation of the organisation’s Quality Strategy, embedding a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and professional accountability.
  • Oversee all aspects of clinical governance including incident management, risk assessment, audit, complaints, and learning from harm, ensuring clear evidence of improvement.
  • Drive workforce planning, recruitment, and retention initiatives, supporting NMC revalidation, mentorship, wellbeing, and career development across nursing teams.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory bodies such as CQC, NHSE, and UKHSA, maintaining strong assurance and readiness for inspection.
  • Foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and external partners, promoting integration, system alignment, and shared responsibility for quality outcomes.
  • Champion innovation, digital transformation, and evidence-based practice to enhance clinical safety, service efficiency, and patient experience.
  • Provide visible leadership, inspiring excellence, compassion, and pride within the nursing workforce while upholding professional values and organisational priorities.

Person Specification
  • Registered NMC professional
  • Master's level qualification in nursing or equivalent demonstrated title
  • Significant experience in a senior clinical and/or nursing leadership role
  • Experience supporting nursing workforce development and revalidation
  • Strong leadership of multi-professional teams and evidence of integrated cross functional working across teams
  • Evidence of working clinically at Band 7 within Urgent / Primary care
  • Expert knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control standards and governance requirements
  • Management or leadership qualification
  • Experience working across urgent or out-of-hours services
  • Involvement in multi-agency safeguarding, legal proceedings, or coronial work
