Your Role

We are seeking a strategic and technically strong Head of Mobile to lead the delivery, quality, and evolution of our mobile product portfolio across three aviation-focused apps. This leader will drive innovation and reliability in mission‑critical customer and operational applications used across the aviation ecosystem.

This role reports to the Director of Software Engineering and manages a team of Mobile Application Engineers, providing technical direction, mentorship, and leadership across iOS and Android development.

As the Head of Mobile, you will define our mobile technology strategy, champion best‑in‑class native development practices, grow and mentor a high‑performing mobile team, and collaborate closely with Product, Design, and wider Engineering to ensure seamless customer experiences across platforms.

What you’ll be doing
  • Own the mobile strategy: Define and execute the vision for our mobile product portfolio across iOS and Android, ensuring quality, reliability, and scalability.

  • Lead and grow the team: Build, mentor, and empower a high‑performing group of mobile engineers focused on excellence and innovation.

  • Deliver great experiences: Partner with Product and Design to plan and deliver mobile roadmaps that delight users and meet business goals.

  • Champion engineering excellence: Drive best practices in coding standards, performance, security, automation, and observability.

  • Ensure testing and quality: Implement robust testing across unit, integration, and end‑to‑end layers, promoting TDD and quality‑first principles in every release.

  • Own CI/CD and infrastructure: Oversee build pipelines, release automation, and deployment workflows to ensure fast, safe, and predictable releases.

  • Monitor and optimise performance: Use analytics and monitoring tools (e.g. Firebase, Crashlytics, AppCenter) to identify improvements and maintain stability.

  • Guide architecture and technology choices: Evaluate and apply the right approach (native vs. cross‑platform), ensuring long‑term maintainability.

  • Collaborate across TrustFlight: Work closely with Product, Platform, and Cloud Engineering to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant mobile solutions.

What you’ll bring

Technical Expertise

  • 7+ years’ experience in mobile engineering with deep, hands‑on expertise in native iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and/or Android (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose).

  • Familiarity with cross‑platform frameworks such as Flutter or React Native.

  • Strong understanding of architecture patterns including MVVM, Clean Architecture, or VIPER.

  • Proven success delivering large‑scale production mobile applications, ideally within B2B or enterprise environments.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • 3+ years’ experience leading teams — hiring, coaching, and developing engineers to achieve their best work.

  • Excellent communicator with the ability to align technical direction with product goals and influence cross‑functional stakeholders.

  • Committed to mentoring, knowledge sharing, and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Passionate about staying ahead of platform and industry trends, with curiosity and openness to new technologies.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Proven experience implementing automated testing frameworks and continuous quality practices.

  • Skilled in unit, integration, and end‑to‑end testing, with a strong TDD and quality‑first mindset.

  • Collaborative approach to working with QA Engineers to ensure comprehensive testing coverage and reliable releases.

DevOps & Infrastructure

  • Hands‑on experience managing CI/CD pipelines and release automation for mobile applications.

  • Strong understanding of monitoring, observability, and performance optimization in production environments.

  • Awareness of security, compliance, and data protection standards within mobile development.
