Head of Marketing & Communications (Maternity Cover)
Contract Type: 12 month fixed term contract. Flexible type (PAYE or consultant)
Location: Remote (with occasional travel to Smash sites)
Salary: £33,000 - £36,500 per year (based on 4 days per week). Equivalent to £41,000 - £45,700 FTE.

Smash Padel aims to make padel, the world’s fastest-growing sport, accessible across the UK. With existing venues in Bicester, Oxford, Whitstable, Mid Sussex, and Cardiff, Smash Padel is expanding rapidly to exciting new locations including Taunton, Eltham and more.
Role Description
Smash Padel are looking to recruit a maternity cover for Head of Marketing & Communications. This person will have the ambition and determination to lead Smash’s marketing and communications plan. Smash currently have five operational sites and the business is rapidly growing. This role may expand over time as Smash invest back into growth and for the right candidate there may be an opportunity to extend this contract.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Marketing, Communications, Media or a related field or commensurate industry experience
- Proven experience in developing and implementing marketing strategies and campaigns
- Experience in the sports, leisure, fitness, or community sector, especially racket sports or padel (desirable)
- Hands‑on experience managing digital platforms (website, social media, third‑party listings & managing content across multiple channels, ensuring brand consistency
- Experience managing communications (internal and external), including newsletters, customer messaging and writing press releases
- Experience coordinating or promoting events such as tournaments, competitions, or community activities.
- Experience building and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders, sponsors, or media.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Marketing Strategies: Create and execute comprehensive marketing plans to enhance brand visibility, grow the customer base, and achieve business objectives.
- Brand Management: Manage the Smash Padel brand, uphold brand guidelines, and ensure all materials are consistent and on‑brand.
- Digital Platform Management: Manage digital platforms including the Smash Padel website, social media channels, and third‑party websites.
- Content Creation and Management: Oversee and support the creation of engaging, high‑quality content across multiple channels to showcase the brand and promote Smash’s culture.
- Media Management: Connect and liaise with media contacts, write press releases, and aim to increase Smash’s media exposure in padel and local press.
- Communications: Maintain clear, consistent communication with members, partners, and the wider community. Create and distribute newsletters, announcements, and updates about upcoming events, programmes, and initiatives. Support internal communications to keep staff and coaches informed and aligned with marketing activities. Respond to public and member enquiries via email. Coordinate messaging across all platforms to ensure a consistent tone of voice and brand representation.
- Event Management: Promote events such as tournaments, competitions, camps and community events to engage customers and strengthen the brand's presence.
- Partnership Development: Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including community links, sponsors, and media partners, to expand the company’s reach and influence.
- Campaign Planning and Execution: Plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns, including digital advertising, influencer collaborations, and sponsorships, to generate interest and increase player numbers.
- Market Research and Analysis: Conduct market research to understand customer preferences, industry trends, and competitor strategies, using insights to optimise marketing initiatives.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) for marketing and communications campaigns, preparing reports to assess success and identify areas for improvement.
