Job description
Head of Marketing and Communications, National Railway Museum

Deadline 27 Oct 2025 Organisation National Railway Museum Job title Head of Marketing and Communications Location York Salary £58,000 per annum

We are seeking a Head of Marketing and Communications who can lead an amazing team to grow our visitor numbers and extend our reach.

The role will be based in York with regular travel to NRM on a permanent, full-time basis. You’ll help us grow as both a museum and visitor attraction, building on our existing brand both regionally and nationally.

This is a rare opportunity to oversee the marketing and communications operations for the World’s greatest Railway Museum at a pivotal point in its history.

About the role

As Head of Marketing & Communications, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our outreach and attracting both new and long-time visitors to explore the railway's rich history, current developments, and future prospects. You’ll develop, deliver and evaluate the marketing and PR strategy for both museums to enhance greater awareness, increased visitor footfall and maximise revenue.

As a key contributor to the Senior Leadership Team at the National Railway Museum, you will report directly to the Director and work within a forward-thinking, dynamic museum that has significant potential to engage broader audiences across the country and beyond, while also connecting deeply with established and emerging communities in York.

This is a deeply rewarding role where two days are never the same and a working environment that will develop your skills as we look to inspire the next generation of engineers.

The role currently works to a hybrid working pattern, which offers flexibility to work from home. However as per the responsibilities of the position, there is still a requirement to be onsite a minimum three days a week and when site-based activity requires it.
