Job Summary

Main Duties

You will be the professional Head of Health & Safety for CHP, covering corporate, occupational and operational responsibilities. This is a high-profile, visible role across the organisation ensuring that Health and Safety responsibilities are coordinated and delivered across the CHP estate and corporate organisation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Establish, implement and continuously improve a corporate Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) across CHP.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory Health & Safety legislation and NHS operating environment requirements.
  • Produce high-quality reports, correspondence and presentations for senior management, boards and external stakeholders.
  • Engage staff and stakeholders to create a positive Health & Safety culture across all sites.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Health & Safety team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • NEBOSH Diploma Level 6 qualified (or equivalent) for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Chartered Membership of IOSH.
Desirable
  • BSc in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Relevant qualification or competence in Fire Safety Management and the undertaking and reviewing of Fire Risk Assessments (minimum NEBOSH Fire Certificate or equivalent).
  • Relevant qualification or competence in Water Safety.
Experience
Essential
  • Hands‑on experience of implementing and overseeing a Health & Safety Management System and processes, corporately, in individual buildings and across building portfolios.
  • Experience producing high-quality reports and correspondence, and giving clear verbal reports and presentations.
  • Expertise in current Health & Safety legislation and corporate, operational and occupational health and safety management issues.
  • Proven ability to engage staff and stakeholders to create a positive health and safety culture.
  • Excellent policy writing and board‑level paper preparation.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of and an understanding of the NHS operating environment.
