A UK engineering firm is seeking a Head of Operational Health, Safety & Environment to lead strategic HSE initiatives across infrastructure projects. The role requires extensive experience in HSE leadership, knowledge of UK legislation, and strong communication skills. This permanent position offers a competitive salary of £85,000 to £95,000 plus a £7,000 car allowance, private medical insurance, and hybrid working options.

We re looking for an experienced and motivated Head of Operational Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead the strategic and operational development of HSE across a major UK engineering business delivering complex infrastructure projects.
You ll take ownership of all HSE matters across a diverse portfolio of works in Rail, Highways, Power and Tunnelling, ensuring a proactive, consistent and safety–first culture across all functions and project teams.
Lead all strategic and operational HSE activities across projects and business units.
Develop and deliver a three–year Operational HSE Strategy aligned with business objectives and client expectations.
Provide expert guidance from tender stage through to design, construction, testing and handover.
Oversee and develop the operational HSE team, ensuring professional growth and collaboration.
Drive continuous improvement using data–driven tools and digital reporting platforms.
Represent the business on industry panels and client working groups.
Degree and/or NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
Chartered (CMIOSH) or working towards.
Proven experience in a senior HSE leadership role within infrastructure or major projects.
Excellent knowledge of UK HSE legislation and ISO management systems.
Confident communicator, collaborator and strategic leader with the ability to influence at all levels.

This is a permanent, site–based role, working 40 hours per week Monday Friday and is available for an immediate start upon appointment.
